The Wizzard Roy Wood
1977 UK pressing. The debut solo album by Roy Wood, released in 1973 after his work with The Move and co-founding Electric Light Orchestra. At this stage, Wood was already renowned for his skills as a songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer, and the album became a showcase for his eclectic musical approach. The project was recorded largely by Wood himself, who handled vocals and played nearly all the instruments, including guitars, bass, drums, keyboards, and an array of unconventional instruments, reflecting his fascination with multi-tracking and studio experimentation. The album emerged during a creative period when Wood had just formed Wizzard, a band known for its wall-of-sound glam rock style, but this solo effort leaned more into Wood's love for 1950s rock and roll, classical music, and whimsical pop.
